Big island of Hawaii, hamakua coast. Earlier I had posted an abstract intimate shot of a 'wall' of palm trees. This is an image of the gulch they live in, and you can see them on the left. Layers of Hawaiian foliage, palm trees, and african tulip trees hug a waterfall of the Uma'Uma river. The waterfall, for reference is about 60-80 feet tall, I'm estimating. I descended down to the river bed and made my way up to the falls, but they weren't that interesting up close. I just loved this view from the bride that passes over the gulch. It's a huge distraction as you are driving along to come upon this, while trying to stay in your lane on a narrow bridge. Standing at this point, if you turn 180 degrees you are looking at the ocean. It's such a beautiful place. I hope my photo does it justice.

I've been through several rounds of critiques from some other photogs, but am happy to hear any comments you may have! Thanks much!

An amazing mix of elements here. They lead you so gracefully to the falls in the distance. Love the orton glow. I could see maybe a slight tick up in midtones, but it looks great and dreamy as is. BTW, use URL in brackets, without quotations in the link, to hyperlink: (url=link)link description(/url) <--- replace parentheses with brackets

I have booked marked this page as my entry point so I always have the HTLM bracket instructions in front of me.

Here is a link to your pic

Sorry I don’t have any useful critique. All I can say is A+, just like the rest of your posts.

I would like to say that you are a lucky guy to have a wife that allowed much of the island trip time to be devoted to photography. I remember you mentioning on one of your posts that your wife was with you for the trip. I was not so lucky on our trip to Maui last year… Congrats!!
How long was your trip?

Great, thank you guys, got it!

Richard, you're right, I am lucky. She's very accomodating to me needs to shoot when we travel. She loves that I do because I'm bringing back pieces of things we experienced together. But, I did stay 4 extra days to dedicate entirely to shooting during our trip. I was there for a total of two weeks, she was there for 10 days. We did a pretty thorough loop of the island, and I made note of things I wanted to return to and shoot after she left. It was really nice. I hope to visit Kauai next!

Glad you guys like the image! Navin, I'll try an adjustment to the midtones and see if that helps.

I had to look twice to see that those were palm trees! This seems so much like a miniature scene... I don't have anything to say, except 'keep it up'.

This is just beautiful Ted. I like the adjustments you made here. The colors are simply glorious and like I mentioned before, I enjoy the mystery of the falls. Excellent processing all around. Bet this one would look great HUGE.

Great artistic work for me, Ted. I especially appreciate the somehow understated presentation of the impressive falls.

Ted, Just gorgeous! Expertly composed and processed. Hard, no impossible, to find anything to be critical of.

The gap between the left and right create a visual pathway for the eye to get to the falls; just a wonderful comp. The touch of red tulips doesn't hurt either. Beautiful.

Wow - the larger version is very striking. Is this where you shot your "Wall of Palms" a couple of weeks ago? Love your composition and the lushness really comes through. The speckled reds add a lot as well. Gorgeous.

Thanks all, really happy you guys like it. Was really doubting this shot for some reason, but not so much anymore!

Hey Bill, yes, the 'wall of palms' are the palm trees on the left. I shot that from the same position, just pointed to the left and zoomed in.

This is a stunning shot Ted! It took a moment for me to realize the scale of the scene -- the hillside on the left is jaw dropping. I didn't know that palm trees could grow like that on such a steep slope. Very well done.

That is a royal beauty. A fine comp and excellent pp. The scene shows what a paradise those islands are.
