... as parents do for their young.

This is another capture from the same Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) family, probably the last one from that series.

The cresting river has spilled over into the ponds and raised the water level. The nest is gone, but it was disused anyway, except as a resting place. The RNG family is (happily?) floating on the muddy water.

My thoughts go to all the people in southern Alberta and BC whose houses and businesses were flooded and destroyed, and who have lost loved ones in that tragedy.

Canon 7D, Sigma 150-500 at 500 mm, f/11, ISO 640, 1/640 sec, monopod, natural light, LR5, PS-CC and NIK suite.

All comments are much appreciated. Thanks for looking and thanks for all your comments on my other photos.

Too cool. Ditto to prayers for Calgary and BC. Visited there last August and love the place, people and attitude. :wavey:

Wonderful shot Roger. I really like the story about the Grebe, not the flood. It is a keeper.

Great interaction, Roger. I love the over-the-shoulder look of the adult.

Great shot Roger, a great situation very well captured. Our best to the victims of this natural tragedy out west, from all people from Quebec. Western resilience will prevail. :toast:
