Desert Rose

by Morris McClung

Gallery: FloraPosted June 26, 20132,044 views12 comments
Well, it's not really desert. The flower was in the very arid, sandy, and rocky Paint Mines Interpretive Park east of Colorado Springs.

Canon 5d, 28-135mm w/macro, tripod, polarizer, iso 100, f5/6, 1/60, 135mm,

C&C always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Nice clean shot. I'm surprised you got so much DOF on the flower from f5.6, but glad you did. For more impact, I'd suggest darkening the background, particularly the corners.

Beautiful, Morris. I love the dof you chose and the bg is really cool in this image.

I like the exposure, composition and dof. I agree with Michael about the darkening of the bg.

Unusual color with good detail. I like the comp. In most instances, I would agree to darkening the BG, but I think it works well here as is in supplying context. The leaves and the rose stand out against it very adequately, and it is blurred enough not to be obnoxious.

Morris:

Beautifully done. Love the details and the selected DOF. The bg is fine and a light vignette may help. Also I may be tempted to crop a smidgen of the top and turn this to a square frame.

Nicely captured in a natural environment, Morris. I like the composition and dof management with the supporting greens and grays. :toast:

Beautiful Morris. Exposure is fine and a selective blur to the leaves in right middle frame might be an improvement. As is very well done. :toast:

Beautifully composed, great colour and spot on dof, Morris. I especially like the variegated background - it sets off the flower to perfection.
