Oregon Grape

Berberis repens, Barberry family. I think, but am not sure, that this is the Cascade Oregon Grape variety. If anyone knows differently please correct me on this. The "Tall Oregon Grape" B.aquifolium is the state flower of Oregon. I caught the berry's in a variety of ripening and think the colors are beautiful.

Very well displayed against the dark green BG, Charlie. I like the semi- spiral comp, with the good lighting. One small, teeny nit—I would have been sorely tempted to pluck the partially decayed (eaten?) grape.

Charlie:

Like the lighting here and the curving composition. Very well done.

Only minor nit is the almost vertical black line in the bg to left of the main stem which I would probably clone out.

Thought about the partial berry and you can chalk it up to my style of liking some blemish in a photo. I could like it your way too Phil.

And Gary I should have, but didn't notice the line. It is a fold mark in the backdrop cloth. I'll take care of it. Thanks.

Nice capture with the seem of drape going down center of frame bothers me. You could clone or heal that out in a snap. :toast:

A most excellent and lovely portrait!! Love the graceful arch of the longest stem, and yes, the colors are super.

A very elegant image Charlie, very well composed and lighted. But I like most the small berries almost tree-dimensional and all with different colors. Beautiful!

I really like your composition of this stem, Charlie. The beautifully colored berries combined with the sharp and shiny leaves make a great combination of elements that you put together in a very pleasing way. On my monitor I detect a possible fold line to the left of the berries in the background. Did you use a black cloth of some kind for the background? That's one of my tricks too. You might wish to make a selection of the background and then run the burn tool over it to get rid of the fold line and some uneven texture. Very nice image!

The plant holds the frame beautifully for me, Charlie - with lovely passages of light and shade across the leaves. The delicate colours of the berries are pure delight.

Charlie: I really like how you have this arranged in the frame. I could also see this flipped horizontally giving it a left to right flow. Excellent lighting and a very nice take on an unconventional subject. >=))>

The wide variety of gentle colors really make this wonderful and your framing is perfect. No wonder it won a WP. Congrats!
