Kīlauea 1985
by Eva McDermott
This is an oldie I took back in 1985 using Ektachrome 100 Professional slide film with my husband's Bronica (square medium format film camera, waist level view finder, manual exposure). Back then, you could actually get this close to the crater's rim since Kilauea's volcanic eruption was not as active then as it is now. We will visit this place again in January 2014. I am planning the trip for the clan. Any advice welcome on other must see places appreciated. The Big Island, Kauai, and possibly Maui for some of us older folk are on the adgenda.
Thanks for having a look.

Thanks Michael - We no longer have this camera (sold it about 15 years ago to someone I worked with so I could buy another piece of photo equipment). It was definitely square format and manual everything. After some research, I am pretty sure it was a Bonica EC. I used it rarely, so hence, my mistake. I used my Mamiya 645 much more frequently back then.
1985, wow, was there film back then? Maybe a glass plate image.....
I love all the textures and colors in this. I wish there was more of the yellow stuff in there. The sky is pretty ominous looking. It almost looks like the smoke/steam from the volcano is causing the sky to look that way.
What will you do differently this time now that you're shooting digital?
