Mt Hood Rhodies

by Daniel Rappaport

Gallery: LandscapePosted July 13, 2013390 views16 comments
Hiked up Bald Mountain to catch the sunrise over Mt Hood. Fogged in. Back down the trail. Rhodies in the fog!
Canon 5DMk2, 24-105 at 24mm. iso 320, f11, 1/8sec. The calm air allowed for 5 images for DOF and merged in Helicon Focus. Added in a tiny bit of orton and negative clarity. If it looks too cooked, let me know. Thanks.

Very nice Daniel. Wonderful depth here and a nice mood with the fog. Like the mild Orton effect also. Beautiful.

Daniel,

Beautiful! Not overcooked at all - I'm a fan of the slight application of an Orton layer; mostly for some additional pop/contrast, not so much for the glow.

What comes across very well here too is the fog! at first glance with the thumbnail one might assume it's blown out sky, but upon opening the image, of course it's not and I think the fog is exposed/processed so that it's not a detriment to the image.

Wonderful image.

Very great capture and mood. My preference would be the inclusion of full leaves in llf but very minor. :toast:

I like the contrast between the moody foggy conditions and the vibrant color. I like the composition but would suggest a little bit of a crop off the top to just below the branches that are hanging down from the top of the frame. This just seems to make the composition just a bit stronger and still suggests the height of the trees. This is really just lovely work, Daniel!! :wavey:

Looks good to me, too. The orton works well here and the blooms really jump out. Very well done.

I would crop off half of the top of this one and call it done. The top brightness really grabs my eye but the rest is pretty nicely spaced and well done.

The lush green, the fog and the rhodies themselves all come together to make such a pleasing image Daniel. Love it!

I have just read Marc's comment and agree. The flowers just jump out of the picture almost, with a crop off the top.

I too think it's not overcooked Daniel. Great mood and processing, and the slight Orton adds to the mood. Very nice!

Daniel, your processing fits this scene perfectly. It has a very light or soft feeling to it. Nicely thought out approach to this image overall.

This is a beauty, Daniel. I love your POV here and the slight orton has given this lush scene a wonderful glow. I too could see this working with a crop, but either way you go this works.
