Morning Tryst

Here are the two mating lions I posted earlier a short time after their brief respite. I tried a vertical crop to focus in on the expressions of their faces. Lion mating certainly isn't a peaceful affair, that's for sure. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....thanks!

Joseph,

Not to sure about this one, mainly because of the absence of eye contact.

The colors and resolution are excellent, as is the DOF control. As Ken noted the lack of eye contact is a drawback. I am curious how the horizontal crop would work.

The funny thing about these two is that we observed them off and on over a period of two days and every time they got to the snarling part their eyes would close, every single time. So we'd get the teeth and snarling but no eye contact but it was nice to see mating lions in the wild was quite a thrill.

Brad - here's a horizontal version pulled out to show the while lions.

Eye contact isn't everything for me, and the story here is evident (though open eyes would have been great). For your vertical crop I would at least leave the whole upright leg of the male in (a little more needed on the LHS thus). I personally like the wider view better, Joseph.

Thanks Morkel! I like that idea on the crop and will give it a try, there's a spot just behind his front legs that looks to be a better spot for the crop than the one I've chosen. My primary motivation for doing this crop is that I want a vertical to fit with a collage I'm doing and I liked the interaction between the two.
