"FRACTURE"

While standing on solid ice in the middle of this lake in the Canadian Rockies. This is from the same winter camping trip back in Dec 2012. The ice was 60cm thick. It was a scary feeling being 250m from the shoreline. While walking around, you can hear the ice shifting creating a "PING" sonar sounds... It is an eery feeling standing there looking into the dark Abyss...

I find ice exploring a very interesting change from the grand landscapes I tend to focus on most of the time

They make for some interesting abstract images

Any comments are always appreciated.

I included a larger file to view as well.

Wow, what a fantastic ice abstract, James! Such a primordial feel to this... like an ancient fossilized remnant frozen in time. Wonderful!

Absolutely wonderful abstract - well done. I'm always looking for something recognizable in abstracts and for me I see and old ship near the top perhaps chasing the whale in front of it.

This is a wonderful abstract, both in composition and color. It's the kind of image I can just sit and absorb. Well done.

Fantastic! The comp is very effective IMO and I really like the interesting detail.

I don't see many ice abstracts that are so dark, so I think this is great.

Thanks for the comments!

Steve,

I see what you mean about the old ship and the whale  It is interesting what you can see in images like this.

I previously posted an image a year ago that was also an ice abstract, where I found a Salmon (fish) in the blue space (air pocket) and a Elephant in the dark space (frozen Ice). I attached it for you to see

At first I thought it was a funky X men logo ( aah the nerd in me!) but this is quite the abstract James! :toast:

Magically enchanting and mesmerizing! The darkness matched with the rich blue tones are exquisite. Gotta love the little scenes we find within grand landscapes.

I like this a lot, James. Wonderful rich blues contrasted perfectly with the deep shadows hint at the abyss that you describe in your narrative and lend an element of mystery about the depth of the abyss.

Looks like 2 whales intersecting. Crazy colors! Dig this. Soft at the corners?

Aaron,

This is a single shot, no blending, the focus seems fine. I really zoomed in and cleaning up the image during processing. But probably have to do more work for a print.

I must get to Hawaii in the new year!

Thanks!

Very cool abstract. Different from the usual ice shots. Sci-fi alien world.

I love this one, James. It is so eerie and deep. I can't tell if it is above water or below, or perhaps in space.
