Brown mantis

I found this brown mantis on a fern so, of course, did a photo shoot with him. Same procedure as other mantis--mantis on plant attached to tripod which I moved around to find the background I liked. In this case it was in front of my flower bed. These guys pose so nicely!

Canon 60D. 180mm macro lens. F/6.3 for 1/80 sec. ISO 200. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

Very nice Carolyn, I like the OOF color in the BG, helps to set the mantis off. Thanks for sharing.

Well caught and carefully composed. I like the diagonal presentation in a vertical format, the perch and the background, with the two framing OOF flower blobs.

Nicely composed and executed. I really like the smooth color transitions in the BG that offset the angular shapes of the mantis.

Gorgeous image, Carolyn ! The dof and the bg perfectly set off a beautifully captured insect.

Love the eyes on this critter. Also nice to get that bit of pink behind the head to keep the eyes from blending with the bg.
