A Mother's Love

We were out exploring the backroads when we spotted this mother mule deer with her little fawn. It was slightly overcast at first, and soon started raining. The mother deer had been grazing a few yards away from her baby. The fawn decided he needed to be closer to his mother so he trotted over to her and was greeted kindly by licks and a quick nuzzle. It only lasted a few moments, and they soon started grazing again. It was awesome watching them share this tender moment.

Thanks for lookin'! :wavey:

Very nice Jenaya. I especially like the raindrops in the larger version.

Glad to see you posting again. I hadn't seen any of your work for a while until just lately. This is a very peaceful scene. The colors are nice and dof works very well to draw the eye to the deer.

Excellent image, Jenaya. The overcast skies gave you nice soft lighting and saturated colors. You caught the activity at just the right moment. Photographers have to have patience to get shots like this. You obviously do. Photographers, at least some, because they aren't always in a hurry, find that there is lots of emotional connections in the animal world. You just have to give it time to show itself. Hey, I'm going off topic. Good job on this.

Nice scene with the doe and fawn. I like the rain drops. Would you consider cloning out the half hay bale (?) Thanks for sharing, and also good to see you posting again.

Interesting scene Jenaya. I like the simplicity and the inclusion of a lot of habitat and of course the effect of the rain. I am however not so sure about the composition. I think that ideally if the subjects and the roll of grass were diagonally placed apart this would feel more balanced.

Thank you for the comments everyone!!

Vincent - I completely agree with you! I have images where one of the subjects is diagonal from the hay bale, but I feel as though the interaction beat out the single subject. The fawn had trotted over to the mom and it lasted only half a second, so there was nothing I could go on position! :frown:
