Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as rosemary, The name "rosemary" derives from the Latin for "dew" (ros) and "sea" (marinus), or "dew of the sea", because in many locations, it needs no water other than the humidity carried by the sea breeze to live.

Lovely and intricate blossoms. I like how the eye is led out of the corner of the frame; strong composition! Thanks for the etymology lesson! I assume this is the source of the spice? Tastes great on grilled salmon with lemon! :toast:

Like the cool lighting a lot here, Charlie - the colouring is so subtle and appealing. Beautifully composed and great macro work !

Charlie - Nice details in the large version and nice subdued and moody lighting. Increasing the exposure may also look nice but I cannot say it will preserve the mood.

I like how the composition is handled first as a strong diagonal ending with nice drooping curves from the stamens (?).

This was shot a few years ago and I have learned a bit since shooting it. I've watched, the nearly 20' of, hedge we have for another bloom each year and have found none. The trees have grown around this hedge and it gets very little sun, which I believe is the reason for no blooms. It is a beautiful, very small, flower and I would love to see other images of this.

By the way this is a great plant to have around if your dog gets skunked. It has a very strong pleasant smell and rubs off on the dog when she walks through it.

I love rosemary but never looked closely at its blossoms. They look like orchids!
