Into the Rain

My dad and I were driving the backroads when we spotted a group of nice bucks. I got set up and started photographing a couple of the bigger bucks. During the end of the light (this picture is at ISO 3200!) it started to rain. One of the younger bucks decided to start heading away, and I thought that made a really cool picture as he headed to the edge of the ridge. I feel it gives a cool mood to the image.

Please view the larger version...it shows a lot more detail and just plain looks better.

Thanks for lookin'! :wavey:

I like the crop and composition quite a bit. Nice work catching the rain, it does help create a strong and pleasing mood. Well done!

In the prairies where things are quite flat it does seem to make sense to emphasize that horizontal feel, unless the sky happens to be amazing. I really like the way you managed to capture the falling rain, nice mood. I think I would have to see the color version to know if the black and white treatment is really warranted.

Hi Gary! Thanks for your critique! I promise you this image is DEFINITELY stronger in B&W. It was my dad's idea and after we tried it I loved it!

Also, I chose a panoramic format just because it really made for a stronger composition I thought. My dad liked the feeling it created by limiting the amount of foreground and background and giving the buck an even stronger sense of direction of movement (his words).

Thanks again for lookin'!

Nice image. I agree with you assessment of why you did the pano crop. It works very well.
