Thank you for your comments on my "Autumn on the Merced" image. They are appreciated.

Back in July, Harley and I wandered around the glacial tarns near Tioga Pass on a couple of different mornings. I love these intimate collections of erratics at these ponds and their various tones and color.

I like this a lot Preston. Your composition is very strong and balanced and the textures look great. I'm a little torn on the reflection, wondering what it would look like if you had used a polarizer, but it still looks wonderful.

Really enjoying this image, Preston. Strong composition with wonderful textures in the rocks. I really like how you have utilized such a wide range of tones, from the deep blacks in the shadows to the nice whites in the rock and sky. Almost like a black and white image but in color. Folks have to look at the larger size image to fully appreciate all the nuances.

Deceptively simple and superbly crafted! I have to split with Bill on the reflection. I like the high contrast of the bright water.

Preston, The larger version really is a must look!! Your composition is really well thought out and it works wonderfully. I love the light from shadow to bright and the amazing details. When Vance said "Almost like a black and white image but in color" I thought perfect!
Really nice work Preston.

I was thinking that your last post would have been good with this treatment. The stone layout works well in the frame, though the water areas are quite bright with not as much interesting light reflected. Clearly the textured stones are the focus here.

Preston,

The texture and tones in this are amazing. Great job on exposing as well. I love the detail in the reflection of the clouds in the water. Well done!

Hey Preston,

I remember this one and like it even more. I like Vance's comment, "Almost like a black and white image but in color." That describes this well. Wide range of tone, shapes and geometry, just like a good b&w. No issue with the reflection for me, makes for some good contrast. Well seen and processed.

I think images like this are hard to pull off, and this is a good one. I like the black and white in color description too.

A very fine intimate take on this scene, Preston. Normally the rocks along the edges would appear chopped out of the scene, but, with the three rocks in a row as a good focal point the outer rocks merely form a nice frame. Contrast and color look good too. Nice idea & work on this capture overall.
