A holly blue butterfly on a rudbeckia; it spent a long time working its way around the flower's cone. I've cloned out some foliage and blackened an already fairly dark bg.

Good timing to catch the BF peaking around the corner, Ian, and I like the imagery conveyed by your title which is also enhanced by the dark bg. Well composed and balanced with the coneflower and bf angled in opposite directions.

Nice detail in both the flower and the BF. The bright light worked well here, creating stark contrast against the background.
No nits, but I have a couple of comments just as matters of personal taste (and I understand my personal taste is a bit odd - : 1 - I usually try to avoid plain black backgrounds in nature photography because I think they often look unnatural. I only mention that because you intentionally darkened the background. I might do that too, if the "fairly dark bg" was ugly or distracting, so take that with a grain of salt; 2. The square comp works well, but I think I might like the balance a bit better in a vertical comp, cutting off some of the left side.

Wayne : thanks for your comments. I absolutely agree about the black bg - I almost didn't post this because I feel as you do about them. The problem was I was keen to shoot this little creature as we don't see them here too often, and I could only catch him on flowers with dark and very messy bgs - blackening seemed to save the image as best I could.
