Mountain scenery

I spotted this lovely little scene while we were driving down the Icefields Parkway in the Canadian Rockies. Not sure what the specific mountains were but I liked the variety of colors and textures of the sky, mountains, stream, and various forms of vegetation.

Canon 60D. 27mm at F/18 for 1/15 sec. ISO 250. Handheld.

Is that the Bow River? Another fantastic image Carolyn.

Not exactly sure where this was, Eva. However, this was just a little stream only about 5 feet across that was next to a pulloff along the highway. Sorry I can't be more specific. . .there are just so many fantastic scenes in this area!

Did you get to Bow Lake Carolyn? That was my favorite place of all in that outrageously beautiful place.

Ah, the icefields parkway. Was there about a year ago. What a place (or rather a number of places  ). I think the green in the foreground is "glowing" a bit too much. I wonder whether shifting the color balance of the image a bit towards red or magenta would improve things...? Or maybe a black & white version? I always find it very difficult to get the colors the way I want with mid-day light...

Thanks for your comments!

Basil: I was a bit concerned about the vivid grass in the front but it's yellow-green color is one of the things that drew me to make this comp in the first place. It really did "glow" as you said. I did actually tone it down some but maybe not enough?

Eva: Unfortunately, we missed Bow Lake. Soon after the Columbia Icefields, it was raining pretty steadily all the way to Lake Louise so we made few stops. :frown: Makes me really want to go back to see what we missed!

I like the depth the layering gives to this image and the focal point provided by the mountains. It's a very nice composition. You got the perfect clouds to go with it.

Nice landscape, Carolyn. I like the layers, and the color looks good to me.

If you're concerned about the color balance, here's a neat little trick I learned from Harley...

Assuming you have Photoshop:

Create a Photo Filters adjustment layer.
Set the filter type to "85" (this is a warming filter)
Try the default value of 25 first. You can then adjust the value to your liking.

(I don't use Light Room or Elements, but there may be an equivalent filter in either of those apps.)

This trick is much easier than using a Color Balance or Hue/Sat layer.
