Sierra Autumn Sunrise

Thank you for your comments on my recent image postings. They are always appreciated.

This image of the Mount Whitney Sierra was made in 2006 on a chilly, but thankfully calm, October morning. The light on Lone Pine Peak and Mount Whitney was very nice, and, like any sunrise, it was changing by the minute. This was the best of three exposures.

Very nice image, Preston. I sure do like it there. I'll bet this scene looks exactly the same today.

Nice understated scene, Preston. It is one of those images that just kind of puts me there, hanging out in comfortable chair, enjoying the scenery. Fine relaxing mood.

The light on the peaks is especially sweet but my favorite part is the fg with it's great mix of plants and rocks. Wonderful composition! The cool/warm tones are very nicely balanced. Lovely.

Preston -- spectacular. A recent favorite from you. I would have to agree only slightly with Harley that it is an understated scene. While it is a peaceful and thoughtful composition with elements placed delicately throughout the scene and it also has very natural colors, the image gets noticeably epic when you climb up the frame. Really love this one

I really like the division of plants, rocks, and mountains as well as the light on the mountain peaks. At first, I was wondering why you used astia 100F, but then I realized it helps in communicating the mood that you must have felt when you saw the scene. Thanks for triggering that insight.

Delicate lighting you captured Preston. The lighting is great but I especially like the mix of textures - stark mnts, round boulders and the grasses. The big hole in the FG gets me thinking that a pano crop from the bottom might work with the mnts along the top setting the tone for a pano. Really nice.

Preston, I especially like this scene for the natural color, warm light on the peaks, and the wonderful mood it conveys, to be able to stir feelings or moods with your photography is truly what it is all about. Beautifully presented.

Beautiful Preston! The clarity is amazing (the humidity in the south prevents much clarity so much of the time) and I'm really glad you left so much FG space for my eyes to explore.

Wonderful comp and such a beautiful tone to the image, that soft pink light on the peaks is gorgeous.

Preston,

I knew this was a PB image when I first saw it! Wait, was that Paul B. or Preston B... This is a wonderful Eastern Sierra and Alabama Hills landscape. Others have described it well, but two things stand out for me. One, is the subtle pink on the range and the second is the somewhat open foreground - just enough opening and space for viewers eye to wander in the scene. No nits or suggestions from me. A great one from the archives.
