Went for a little hike with fellow NPN'r Bruce King Saturday on the Owyhigh Lakes trail at Mt. Rainier. Technically the park is closed because of the current government BS, but the trail starts along the side of state rte. 123. You don't have to go to one of the park entrances, you can just park at the pullover across the road.

When we got back to the car, there was a red warning sticker on Bruce's window stating that we were parked "illegally" and to move or else be ticketed and towed. I guess they still have a few rangers working somehow!

Anyway, it's a beautifully maintained trail with huge old growth trees and a beautiful creek with some nice falls and rapids going through some rocky gorges. Here's a shot from one of the convenient bridges that span the creek. Bruce recently posted a shot of the same falls from a different angle. This one is more straightforward.

Nice shot! I don't think you could frame any better. Good light and exposure to display the water. Good story on shutdown. I wonder if our upcoming planned trip through some forestland will encounter road blocks... tickets...towing...etc. Glad you and Bruce got nothing than a warning. USFS, BLM, BIA, and NPS are taking a pounding for being political pawns. First, they absorb budget cuts, while pet projects and contractors get funded...then this. I think it probably just frosts most of them... my hats off to them... no win situation.

I like the comp and the flow and SS.
I might saturate the foliage a tad more for a bit more pop.

Ken, any agency run by the Feds are affected. That would include any national forest trails I'm sure. I still wonder who's paying the rangers we saw slapping the stickers on cars...

Dan, here's a more saturated version.

I like the pop of color better in the repost. Beautiful falls, and your comp shows them off perfectly. Good depth in this as well.
