Doomed

Just back from 3 weeks visiting relatives all across the US - Kansas, OK, VA, Washington, then a week in Florida with my parents. On the way back, I took part in the 4-day NANPA summit in Laredo, TX.
Hardly any birds around, since the rains grew food and critters for eating and birds/raptors were not concentrated at known ponds.
BUT - lots of dragon flies and macro stuff.

This unfortunate dragonfly was chasing a bug and ended up in the water. It was only a few seconds before the turtle came up for a free lunch.

Gotta say, Sandy, I am impressed with this image. Handheld 500 at 320 w/ large crop, and the detail is still excellent. I like the comp a lot with the positions/angles of both the DF and turtle in the frame. I also like the perspective - the dragonfly looks enormous. All in all, an excellent capture of this serendipitous moment. :toast:

I love the existential message of this; the chain of cause-and-effect you captured; and how in this moment one creature appears to be "doomed". And yet, if your image were a movie of much longer duration, then an even much more interesting impression would emerge, as it does in my imagination, occasioned by your momentary capture.

Got to admit I was so interested in the dragonfly I almost missed the turtle coming up from behind. Great nature shot! thanks for sharing.

Amazing shot, Sandy. For a moment I thought this was frog - we do not have turtles up here. Details holding up very well despite the "very large crop".
