Trout Lake WA

The sky was not 'epic'. (...if ever there were an overused word...that is it.) Much of the Pac NW NPN group enjoyed the photo-tour of Trout Lake. Plenty of photos...but I have few keepers.

Zeiss 35mm with Nikon d800e and polarizer. Single exposure.

Wonderful layers of light and shadow on this glowing beauty and the blue sky is a clean contrast to the ground show, where there is plenty to enjoy.

Well, you have proven that you don't need an (ahem) "epic" sky for a fine landscape! You more than make up for the sky with otherwise excellent light and processing, and most of all, an exceptional composition. Your use of the FG grasses in front of that warm band of light does wonders to anchor this image. :toast:

While I agree the sky didn't cooperate here Ken, I just love everything else. The grass is spectacular, and the light behind is perfection.

I think Wayne's comments capture my own sentiments perfectly. The premium that often seems to be placed on a powerful sky is not always warranted, and this image excels without it.

Beautiful scene with great warm colors Ken. Your use of the fore ground grasses is excellent. The whole scene is a pleasure to look at. Very nice. :toast:

The layers of light add a lot of depth to this one. A beautiful autumn scene.

Even without that epic sky this turned out beautifully, Ken. The warm light is gorgeous and you used those layers to perfection. I could also see this working with just a bit higher POV.

Very nice image Ken. I really like the layers you captured here with the foreground grass. It's a bummer that you didn't get any clouds in the sky, but at least the mountain was out.
