Great Blue Heron

While boating at Lake Anna here in Virginia today, I was able to get a few shots of some of the birds like this Great Blue Heron. Great day on the lake!
Canon 7D, 100-400L @ 250mm, 1/1250sec, f/5.6, iso400, handheld while in boat drifting and cropped for composition. I had to drop the quality to 84% to get it to the 1200 limit...
C&C welcome

Good takeoff catch. The background is problematic, but it usually is with this bird, in my experience.

Got to view this as a large photo. Very good shot of the take off. Like the water around its feet! Good color and detail. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with Phil on the BG influence, but otherwise a great take-off capture David.
Good job getting this handheld from a boat:toast:

David, I especially like the effect of the feed splashing through the water. I photographed many herons this past summer, and agree with Phil's statement that the background is often problematic with these birds.
