On northern waters like this Adirondack wilderness lake, the loons you see in October are likely to be juveniles. They migrate south much later than the adults.

The lingering Loon looks lonely and lost. :frown: I love the foggy morning watery scene. Very evocative!

This definitely evokes the solitude of the lake camping in the northern woods. I can just hear the loons calling through the morning mist (although I don't know if they call this late in the season) and the gentle slap of waves on the shore. Beautifully seen (beautiful scene).

Good to see another one of your loon-on-the-lake shots, Wayne. These shots always seem to impart such a feeling of peace and serenity to me. In this case, I can almost feel the morning mist on my face as the canoe gently glides across the lake. Nice comp with the loon, sloped mountain, and edge of an island. With the fall colors in the trees, this works great for our challenge.

Really nice comp Wayne; a misty day with muted background colors and the lone loon peacefully going about it's way. I was up in your neck of the woods in June, and saw a nesting loon right in the river I was paddling (Fish Creek) which was surprising because it's a very busy thoroughfare close to a state campground.
