A midnight shot of White Dome Geyser, in the Lower Geyser Basin of Yellowstone NP. The glow that is illuminating the steam is from the moon setting on the horizon. Right after I shot this I repositioned my camera and shot this image/.

Single Exposure

Very cool. I am generally not a fan of night images, but I like this one. I am finding the comp a bit left heavy. Although the clouds are real nice on the right, I might crop off about half the right side, to almost the higher small formations on the horizon? Either way, real nice.

Yellowstone is such an amazing place all by itself but add your creative imagery and it turns incredibly mesmerizing. Thanks for posting it. :toast:

Well seen and very well executed.
You have a very nice sky at night color, the moon was just light enough, looks perfect.

Really cool shot Zack! I'm guessing we'll need to stay out late on our next Yellowstone trip; your night shots from there have been inspiring.

Very unique and inspiring image! My favorite from your recent series. I like the dead center composition you chose, and the light bracketing the geyser is simply sublime. No nits from me at all. Excellent from conception to 'development'!

Hi Zack,

This is a great night shot. The stars and clouds add to the scene, but it might be even nicer to see the geyser moved to the right about 20% in my opinion.

I’d go for a slightly tighter crop.

Fantastic! Your ability to visualize this, your creativity and your technical ability to pull it off, are all apparent here, Zack.

I think the composition works well. I do understand the compositional comments about being left-heavy because the plume is leaving the frame, but I would not want to sacrifice any of what's on the right. This is wonderful as-is, but if you want to experiment, you might try adding some space to the left side (if you have any "space" to add). If not, you already have something unique and beautiful here.

Beautiful! Great timing, too. I just wish the geyser was positioned a little to the right to balance out the flow.

Wonderful creativity with this fine capture Zack. The right amount of anchor to go along with the stunning color in the geyser that provides a beautiful contrast.
