Robber flies are vicious critters, guess they have to be if they feed on bees! I was trying for bees in flight when the robber came along, could not pass up the shot.

Nice shot of the robber & prey John, it's always nice when stuff falls in your lap
Perhaps a bit more DOF to get that near eye in sharper focus?
Great catch in any case :toast:

I tried to shoot one of these several time this summer but it wouldn't hold still in a spot where I had a clear look like this. This is nicely captured, especially with the prey.

Wow, another great robber fly action shot. Lighting works great to show off the bee, too. Too bad the focus was a bit too far. Looks like the focus point ended up on the wings, as you would expect if you were trying for flight shots. Sometimes you just can't work fast enough to change the focus and exposure settings when you get an opportunity like this, but the important thing is to get the shot, which you did.

This is a good capture of nature at its best, John. More sharpness would help, but I'm sure that the conditions were challenging and the photo opportunity was fleeting.

Another great shot of these nasty hunters. . .at least from the bee's perspective. Yes, more focus would be nice but this image certainly works well as is to show this fly in action. One thought might be to experiement with cropping in from the top, right, and bottom to help "clean" up the background a bit.

Wow, nice shot John. Always fun to see nature in action and you captured it well. Like the sharpness when you can see hairs on the legs. It dramatically illustrates predator-prey battles that occur every day.
