Rundle Awakens
by Harry Lichtman
I was out in Banff checking out the annual film festival 2 wks ago with friends, so it wasn't really a photo related trip. I couldn't resist the easy accessibility to grand scenes and still be able to meet up with friends for breakfast. While I didn't get to do much exploration of the area, I got enough of a taste to realize it's a place to return to down the road.
While this wasn't the most colorful images I took, I really like the early morning mood. For those of you who have been there, a nasty orange glow is created by the town of Banff on Mt. Rundle real early in the AM, which I tried to reduce the best I could and still have it look natural. Any added ideas are most welcome. Unfortunately a crescent moon was obscured on this AM by clouds, but I was able to included it on another AM.
5DII, 24-105L, ISO 2500, 30 sec. Single RAW processed several times to apply noise reduction, dynamic range.

You did an outstanding job of doing something different with this and it is really nice.
The ice is a real treat and the color (although out of the box), is artistic and pleasing.
Congrats on a new take on the Vermillion lakes.
Chris - this is a slightly croped version. The original did include more water, but ends up placing Rundle and clouds even more off center. I thought this crop gave a bit more balance. Only more dark mnts. to the right, so I didn't wat to point the camera any more that way as it felt really unblanced to me. Thanks for your thoughts, I'll take another look at the original full frame image.
The detail on that leading edge of ice is a great foreground, as is the way the ice frames the reflection. I often find myself conflicted with cloud movement, and would like to see a version without it. I think I would prefer it.
