Crazy eyes
by Andrius Pašukonis
It's a freshly metamorphosed juvenile of a large tree frog, Phyllomedusa sp., photographed in French Guiana. He was probably smaller than 2cm. As adults, these tree frogs are among some of the most expressive and photogenic frogs you may find.
However, they're not so easy to find as they spend most of their time in the rainforest canopy. You may find them up in the branches above small ponds at night, where they mate and wrap clutches of eggs in water overhanging leaves. As tadpoles hatch, they fall down into the water. I was quite lucky to get a shot of this tiny guy and it turns out, they're even more expressive as babies!

6 commentsYou captured a delightful image of this expressive and cute subject. The colors are nice and the reflections on the legs and feet add a nice touch. The only suggestion that I have would be to crop out the portion of the green leaf and bit of yellow in the bottom-right corner, as they distract a bit from the main subject.
Well done.
Great perspective on those eyes.
Any chance for a tighter crop to eliminate some of the black on top?
