An apple a day keeps the wasps away.. Not!
I noticed these 1/2" size Southern Yellowjackets feeding on some apple scraps in our chicken coup. So I sliced a very small apple in half and placed it on a brownish/orange dinner plate for this portrait. I put the plate near the coup, and they came fairly quickly..
F/11, 1/200th, ISO 640, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with fill under moderate-heavy overcast skies.

Nice capture of the feeding yellowjacket, Howard. Good comp/perspective, excellent detail on the yellowjacket, and the dinner plate work well for the colorful bg.

When the Southern Yellowjackets would get too close to one another, I observed this aggressive behavior..
Thought it worth noting :wavey:

Nasty little suckers.. we just got into a nest of their bigger cousins while putting up Christmas decorations on an outside evergreen. Several stings each that hurt/itch like the devil...
Nice image, though, and great look at the face. Very nice colour combinations.
Sandy.

The details in the face are terrific, Howard. and the background color coordinates well with the apple and the wasp's wings. Well done. The aggression is a neat catch also, glad they're not coming after me.
