Thanks for your comments on my prior post. I continue to dabble in B&W, and very much appreciate the feedback. This is the base of Horsetail Falls. The larger version is likely worth the click.

Nikon D80
Nikon 18.0-70.0 mm f/3.5-4.5 50.0 mm (75mm equiv.)
1/6 sec at f/22 and ISO 100
(I have no clue how I ended up at f22; I only shoot that for a sunstar.)

Super! John, the framing of the misty falls …with the frosted icicles in b/w is perfect. I love the pool …looking like a hot-springs in a salt basin. The octopus headed icicles are a treat! Nice.

Very good John it works very well in mono and I like the softness of the falling water juxtaposed by the crystalline sharpness and clarity of the ice shapes particularly those on the back wall.

Beautiful John, again your exposure on the whites couldn't be any better, I like this very, very much. Beautifully seen and presented.

Powerful! I don't know how you could ever pull yourself away from this scene. It would be easy to get lost in the world of this living, breathing spectacle. Beautifully composed and processed.

Hi John,

The scene is very powerfoul. I might add some contrast, especially in the water itself, to show the mood of pover even more.

Cheers,
Marko

John, I live 32.2km north of the equator. Such scenes could just as easily be from, well, another planet with lots of cold water. Those formations are quite extraordinary and I'm hoping to see more (intimate abstractions?) form you from this place with a bigger lens attached to your D80.

When looking at the large version, my eyes zip from one side to the other and back again. The 'bowl' at the base of the waterfall cements it together into something coherent. tones work from me too. nicely done.

Fairly brilliant, John! Your pp takes this to another level. Fascinating ice structures like so many visitors to a water show. Haunting, evocative, pure art. :toast:

This is just real nice all the way around, John. The details and tones are excellent. The small aperture was helpful in that the DOF is right on.

Ship it!

Definitely frosty! I think your treatment is perfect. It really lets the contrast between all sharp icy structures and the softness of the moving water be the star.

Fabulous image here, John. A pleasure to look at for a while. Is this the falls in Yosemite?

I like the repetition of the vertical lines - first from the falls and then as if to mimic the falls the ice-cycles. Great range of tones in this as well. Marvelous!!

"Likely worth a click". I would say that's quite an understatement John! This is really nice, with fantastic detail. I can really find no nits at all. Love it in B&W.

The back wall is amazing to look at- like multitudes of jellyfish. The range of tone in contrast in the wall is very pleasing.

Interesting comp, John--i love ice (next post...) so this is an easy sell for me. The brightest highlights look like they could use some taming on my (uncalibrated) laptop. :wavey:

Very nice b/w image John. I really like the tones and textures here. It looks like you caught the ice at the peak. I was there yesterday and so much of the ice has melted. The splash pool was completely free of ice.

Nothing short of incredible! The waterfall is amazing, but the icicles on the sides are what really put this over the top.
The conversion looks excellent to me as well.
