Roadrunner

It was a HUGE hope of mine to see a Roadrunner while in New Mexico...I wasn't even sure if they migrated south or if there would be some there. I was lucky enough to see 4 of them. This was taken early morning of my 2nd day, after leaving the crane pools, and what an incredible morning I had! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this one sitting on a fencepost, sunning himself. He was probably a little cold and wet from the previous day's snow. I'm surprised that they are so colorful. Meep, meep!

50D, 700mm, ISO 400, F11, 1/1000
LARGER version also provided.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment/critique! Sharon

Very cool and unique image Sharon. I don't think I have ever seen a roadrunner perched on a post before.

Nice pose on the post and excellent detail in the plumage of the RR. The main improvement (for me) to the photo would be to get rid of the barbed wire. Otherwise a fine photo. Glad you got to see one.

Love the iridescent colors in the feathers and a unique pose for a Roadrunner.
Nicely done Sharon!

You found the roadrunners! Excellent! Have never seen any RR on a perch. The barbed wire doesn't bother me a bit
Delightful rear view of this one, showing the gorgeous plumage on the back.
Great head-turn to see the head, crown, and beak.

Excellent, Sharon. The pose is lovely and the techs are very good. Fine work capturing the iridescence.

Wonderful capture of this cool bird Sharon. Interesting that you found him perched on a post- maybe he's trying to get a distant bead on Wile E! :toast:

A wonderful capture indeed, nice job. I have yet to get a really good image of a road runner, I'm glad you were able to nail this guy in a nice pose on a great perch. :toast:

Lucky you, Sharon! A beautiful capture that really shows off the color. My only views were of them running away.

Sharon: Very unusual shot of the Roadrunner. Don't know that I've ever seen one on top of a fence post. I've seen plenty on the roof of my house!! Nicely captured

Excellent. I've never had one sit up like this - it definitely makes for a nice composition.

Nice pose Sharon. I agree roadrunners are special and it is always nice to get one off the ground. If mine, I would be really, really tempted to clone out the barbed wire. Probably just pers preference. Dave
