Bighorn Crossing

D800 200-400mm @280mm F8 1/750 ISO 800

Taken just off the north entrance road into Yellowstone NP

Could not have had any worse exposure elements, directly into the sun with a backlit subject at high noon resulting in blown out highlights on the water, but there was no other possible angle from which to capture the action, so it is what it is. Extensive post processing curves adjustments were necessary. This was action I most likely will never see again so I have to make the best of what I was able to get. I did get many more images of this small band of 6 rams all of whom jumped the creek at this point.

Bob, you are correct, some time you just have to make the best out of what nature gives you. In this case I think you have done very well. I like how you have stopped the action with the legs extended. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, quite an amazing action shot. The bighorn's position is what drew my eye, not the blown out highlights in the water. Would love to see where and how this guy landed. You really caught a special moment here.

I liked this photo when you posted it on 10/19/13, although this one is cropped just a bit tighter. I think I prefer the previous post for the looser crop and decreased exposure. Remarkable timing to catch him mid air.

I, too, prefer the version you posted earlier with the decreased exposure. Have you come up with a caption for a flying ram?
