BRUNCH IN THE PH

Hiking in Manuel Antonio preserve, located in Costa Rica Pacific coast, I came to this Brown Throated Sloth. She was hanging upside down (as usual) some 30 ft. up having brunch, when I noticed that it was a family brunch, as a youngster was gently held by her while feeding.

Alberto, finding a sloth with a baby is quite a feat. I also saw a mom with a baby in MA last year, but they were further out of reach than these two. Nice find.

I've found that sloths can be especially difficult to photograph, due to the height they're usually at, their lack of activity, and of course the possibility of so many branches and leaves in the way. I think the lighting here was a real challenge, as is often the case in the jungle. The details in the face(s) are lost in shadow. Some fill flash may have helped in that regard. At least you got some sort of sloth "action" and you can see the youngster.

I think you did well considering the light situation and the position of the sloths. I also think a bit of fill flash may have helped this image out. Maybe you could reduce the green cast a bit. Thanks for sharing.

I'm finding it quite challenging to sort out exactly what is going on, as their bodies are entangled and the inverted body positions add to the challenge. This is how they live though so good work just capturing them in habitat. I agree a bit more light on the facial area would help. Alberto, what does the "PH" in the title stand for?

Hi Max, John and Gary thanks for your comments,
On this occasion I was just walking alone on the park, having left my friends behind, when I saw "mother" Sloth, she was a bit far up and away, but I tried a handheld shot at it, to be sincere , I did't make what was happening at that moment, but when I reviewed the photo enlarged in the LCD screen that I realized it. tried to take some more photos but people had arrived making quite some noise, and mother and son decided to move a bit and gave their back to us.
Here is a close up,

Thanks again
Alberto
