Fence and Snow

This picture was taken on a cold day in Lewistown, Montana. I took this picture using my Nikon Coolpix P90. This is my first post on the site and I welcome feedback. I like the muted color in the picture. I have not edited this photo at all except to crop it a bit.

Welcome to NPN, Linda! :wavey: Very nice first posting. I really like your point of view, looking down the fence line from the point the fences intersect. I also like how the larger lacey bushes on the right of the fence make a nice counterpoint to the smaller grasses on the left of the fence. The sky being darker than the snow/ice-covered vegetation gives this image a moody, stormy feel. The monochromatic and muted colors in this photo really allow all the wonderful textures in this scene to become the main focus. Looking forward to seeing more of your images in the future!

Even though the colors are muted the scene has plenty of contrast so the wonderful details of the frosted branches and grass really stand out. You used the fence nicely in your composition and your exposure is perfect. Very nice first post, Linda. Welcome to NPN and like Carolyn, I'll be looking for more posts from you!

Welcome to NPN Linda :wavey:

Very nice first post - you truly have a feel for seeing the beauty in what is often perceived as "common". Like Carolyn, I really appreciate your point of view looking down the fence, however (if possible) it might have been nice to get the base of fence post in - but that's a very minor change.

The monochromatic colour scheme is perfect for translating the mood of that day into this image and with all the textures, there's a lot to hold the viewers interest.

Looking forward to more of your posts :toast:

If a photograph evokes an emotional response from a viewer, the photographer has achieved her purpose. This scene definitely gave me a "cold" feeling, so mission accomplished, Linda! This would not be the same under sunny skies. I like the various lines in your shot, which makes me linger and explore. There is the horizontal fence in the foreground, then the fence shooting off into the background, and finally the treeline describes a path from lower left to upper right. A very interesting and pleasing composition Linda.

This is a great first post, Linda. The gentle colors and dark sky really let the frosty branches and grasses dominate. I also like how you included the distance fence line to add a great sense of depth. Welcome to NPN!
