Light in the dark

These are the newly opening flowers of a Diablo Ninebark bush. The dark red of the leaves makes a nice contrast with the brightness of the emerging flowers. Symbolic meaning could be read into this image if one wished--colorful spring emerging from dark winter, or, seeing light in the midst of darkness. . .but I just like it for the contrasts and its simplicity. :smile: Taken last spring.

Canon 60D. 90mm macro lens. F/5.6 at 1/20 sec. ISO 250. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

Edit: Apologies to Thomas Haney. . .I didn't see your similarly titled picture until after posting mine. :rolleyes:

Truly beautiful. I wavered a bit about the lower leaf but decided you were smart to include it. It adds yet another layer to the image and to your symbolism as well. Nice shot.

Very moody and I really like the pop of color out of the darkness and even the DOF falloff.

Small flowers but great drama, Carolyn ! The high contrast works superbly for me - that leaf looming out of the shadows is so effective !!
