Winter Stillness

I haven't posted anything new for a little while now so thought it was about time again. Come February it will be 10 years on NPN for me. It seems kind of hard to believe now. Anyways, this is a picture I made early this morning after getting a fresh coat of snow in the early morning hours. I had picked this spot out a few days ago as a place I could maybe make a new picture so that is where I headed this morning. Thanks for looking and any thoughts. Better viewed in the large version.

Very nice Nick, the blue tones emphasise the frigid conditions wonderfully. The foreground tree fits nicely into the space between the clear water and the snow line.

The larger version is excellent for the details of the scene, Nick. The only change I might entertain is cloning the small bush? that is mid view on the upper right in the open snow. Not sure why that catches my eye so much, but a draw for me away from the wonderful FG area that is so nicely on display here.

While I really like the starkness and the foreground, I think it needs a stronger BackDrop to go with.
Your usual nice techs and image quality.

Nick, you captured the feeling of a peaceful cold morning very well. I always appreciate your photographic interpretation of areas that most people think as unspectacular. There is great beauty everywhere if we will just look and allow the Spirit talk to us.

Not an easy shot to pull off, but this one works well for me Nick. A blocking foreground can stuff the eye at the front, and cover the good stuff in the back. The only place this happens for me is that rock on the right, otherwise the background color and simplicity backs the foreground nicely.

Really like the way you composed this Nick, love the blue tones, really has a chilly look to it. Yup, time does fly, I'm getting close to 8 years my self. Excellent work, stay warm.

wow--10 years, im getting closer tho. 10 yrs with a camera for me.
I love this scene Nick but the left side branches are a bit uncomfortable breaking the horizon line. Otherwise this is well done. :wavey:

Thanks much Albert and Stan!
Stan, I know what you mean about the branches but just couldn't figure a way around that which would work. I wanted to shoot the scene so went with this. Kind of hard to tell here but I was thick in brush and had water going over my boots...burrrr. My truck was only about 200 yds away but still it was pretty cold by the time I got back. :wavey: Nick

Love the graphical presentation. I don't mind nature's unruliness breaking some of the composition rules here at all.

Beautiful focus and colors. Ice on the branches perfect complement to the snow on the ground.
