Waterton Park in southern Alberta this Big horn was enjoying the grass and solitude until I surprised him on the trail.

He continued to look at me for several moments before casually wandering away up the mountain side.

taken several years ago and was still using JPG then.

Fuji s5 pro camera, Nikon lens at 280mm,
1/100, iso320, F4, handheld, manual metering ,

your comments and critiques are very much appreciated.

Wild Big Horn, no baiting, no luring.

Bill

I have always loved the grandeur of Bighorn Sheep Rams. This frame exudes detail, texture, patterns in the hair, horns, etc. All those browns with that little bit of green to offset it. Maybe just a tad dark on my screen but I love it just the same!!

Bill - This is a nice capture. The grass blade in the mouth is an added feature.

If it the opportunity presented itself again, it would be nice to see the entire left horn, and for the right horn and ear to be in focus. But, the light must have been low.

Over all, well done.

Bill,
Incredible detail here, my only nit is that both horns are not fully visible :toast:

Nice one Bill ….. Detail is fantastic and so are the tones. I must say that I'm with Randy on this one with regards to seeing the entire left horn

Hi Bill. Image quality is good, even if you were using jpeg. Some noise in the background that could be tamed if you wanted. As others have mentioned, there is obviously some areas that you have decided to clip, the horn and that grass from the mouth. It does emphasize the details of the face but "conventional" approach would be to loosen the composition a little to include those areas. I'm ok with either approach, great to do things a little bit different sometimes and avoid having your photos look like everyone else's. I might tweak the colour balance a little though, seeing a little too much magenta on the white nose and also in the hair coat.

Hello Guys

Thanks for the critique!:)

As mentioned taken awhile ago using JPG and I guess some jpg processing has lingered.
The encounter was sudden , unexpected and only had a moment to get this image with partial horns etc.
The files are now lost and I am working from this Image and can not remember if I had more of the horn and whether cropped. I do remember being very close at the time and I felt pleased to get most of him in and important areas within focus. An encounter for me to remember being so very close to this well defined and seasoned character!
Always enjoy reading and getting constructive feedback from many seasoned photographers:)

Thanks

Bill

The details are excellent and I like your processing choices. I feel he is a little crowded in the frame and if you have the space it will have better effect, especially if printed and framed.
