On New Year's eve I went out looking for a train to photo with my flash, but didn't find any. So, I went to Currie MN and found an old steam engine they had on display in front of their depot. I used a couple of Nikon SB-25 flash triggered by CyberSyncs, about 1/4 power to lighten shadows. Camera was my Chamonix 045n, a modern 4x5 camera. Lens was a Petzval made by Andrew Ross in 1845, five years after the invention of photography. (quarter plate lens ~5 inch, f2.8) Ilford HP5.

You really captured the sense of a cold, snowy night. Love the old train; the photo evokes the sense of looking into the past. My only nit would be I would have liked more of the photo in focus.

Keep in mind the lens is f2.8 with no adjustable aperture, is being used on 4x5, and is 170 years old. This is actually what the lens was designed to do--very very soft look.

I like this Kent. My first impression was of a model locomotive. I think your lens did a great job of showing this scene in a very interesting way. Nice job.

Real nice old time look, Kent. The petzval did its job well. The image looks to be from the 1800's. I like it.

Kent: My first impression was this was of a model taken with an old pinhole camera. Marvelous scene uniquely captured. >=))>

I like the aged look you captured Kent. Great work in my opinion.
