Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post. Much appreciated.

Here's another Bison image I made several days later in Lamar Valley. I located this small herd just before sunrise and snowshoed out to get closer to the animals. Just as the sun rose over the mountains to light the valley this bull Bison made his way past me while the rest of the herd playfully ran around in the distance.

Another dynamite winter Yellowstone capture Zack. Having visited Yellowstone last spring (mid May) and coming away saying how magical it was in spring I'd have to say all seasons are magical in Yellowstone. Your winter images are fascinating, :toast:

Really nice, Zack. A nice scene with a close bison, quite a few in the BG, and a really photogenic tree. You nailed the exposure as the snow looks like snow and the trees have detail as well. Early morning light helped add atmosphere, too. The bison look much more comfy than in the previous image. But who knows, they may have been comfy earlier, too. Certainly they are quite used to those kinds of extremes.

Hi Zack,

There's definitely lots for the eye to explore on this one, especially when one opens up the larger version. Traditional compositional "wisdom" (if there is such a thing) normally suggests having the main subject walking into the frame, but I think this works well as posted and the positioning of the main subject balances well with those spectacular frost-encrusted trees. Good example of how to "break the rules" while producing an effective image. Very nicely done!

Cheers...

Brad

Beautiful, with great timing to catch the early light before it went up the mountains. I agree with Brad's comments about the bull leaving the scene, but you left enough space there, and the distant bison help balance the image.

Classic scene Zack. The fall of light works wonders here. I like that the bison is on the RHS as opposed to the conventional LHS, "walking into the frame", and that it's balanced by the trees in the background on the LHS.
