Desert Abstract Miniscape. These dead twigs posed an unusual miniscape against a very abstract OOF BG.

An interesting idea with an unusual but quite sticking result. For me it doesn't quite work for technical reasons. The contrast between focus and OOF is the main feature but the subject just isn't sharp enough to drive the intent home.

I like your concept here very much, but agree the dead twigs need to be tack sharp to bring it off. I like the back ground and lighting. Chet

I like the concept here, Lucy. But I agree with others that the foreground twigs just are not sharp enough to carry the image.

I agree. I tried to get the twigs as sharp as I could in processing, but this was the best I could do. What I had hoped, was that the BG would be so compelling as to make the photo work.....Well, maybe next time. Thank you for your honesty

what would you think of the photo, if I removed the twigs entirely???

I agree with the masses Lucy, and I agree with you, and would try removing the twig.

I think you hit on something, Lucy. It might be tough to remove the whole twig, but that BG is great.

What they said. I like the abstract possibility of the same shot without the foreground.

Oh, I'm actually going to really go against the grain, and say that I very much believe the first photo works, and very, very well.

It's an alternative interpretation, but I'm finding that the unfocused lower parts of the three dead twigs in the foreground are helping to complement the OOF background, and that they further deepen a dreamlike quality that I think the image already has, and help me, via a "selective focus", to focus on the upper part of the central twig as a final place where my eye rests.

Well, that's my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth.

The second image is cool, too.
