Klamath Valley Poplars

I went to the Klamath valley for bird photography last week, but while waiting in vain for eagles one evening, I noticed how these poplars across one of the refuge ponds were lit by the sun through stormy skies and couldn't resist spending a few hundred megabytes on the scene. There were also a couple of sunlit road signs across the way that were digitally removed.

5Diii, 300mm f4 ISL, tripod, f20, 1/60, iso 500, Av mode with no compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. A very slight crop from the sides for straightening the image and cropped a bit from the bottom to de-emphasize the foreground shrubs and quite a bit from the top to get the proportions I wanted and eliminate some pretty flat and uniform cloud cover. Taken Monday, February 17th at 4:30 pm.

I don't do much landscape style photography, so I'd be interested in some good critique.

Thanks for looking,

I like this shot alot, Dennis. The large view really shows off the color and wonderful light. I wish the foreground shrubs were not blocking so much of that wonderful strip of light but I'm guessing you'd have to be pretty tall to avoid them. It took me a minute to figure out the other bright spots were birds catching the light. The large view made that quite clear.

I like it too, Dennis. The larger version really shows the highlighted birds off nicely. The foreground brush does block the view some but I'm sure you couldn't avoid it without getting higher and it probably wasn't an option. I like the sky (clouds) here as well.
