Mother Nature, revisited

When NPN first went online, I posted the original image of this and did an article on it. Since then, I've had a chance to play with it a bit in image editing. This is one of my favorite versions. I gave it the 'Orton' look digitally to make it softer, give it a more painterly effect, cropped the lamppost on the right in half, and a little bit from the top, in order to draw the eye more into the scene and straight to the lighthouse.

Grand Haven, MI

Pentax ME Super
Sigma 80-200mm lens
UV filter
Kodak Gold 200

Any suggestions and/or comments welcome, as always.

Toni

I remember the original. Maybe my visual memory tends to even things out, but I don't recall the foreground snow being so featureless. Otherwise, this works very well as a dreamy version. It is fun using photoshop to create very different versions.

That's one of the drawbacks of digital Orton's...it has a tendency to not show as much detail.

Thanks, Pete!

very nice mood to this scene. Very painterly.

I've started to use photo's a base to work from, the end product being neither an untouched photograph or fully digital image, but rather a melding of the two to create something else.

This is REALLY nice, Toni! I like the look and feel of this...like a painting.

Nice work! :toast:

This is one of my all-time favorite photos, ever since I saw the version you first posted, (on another website). Perhaps that one was a slightly different perspective, I can't remember for sure. Anyhow, I think I gushed about it then, so I'll restrain myself this time.

Great picture!

Thank you all! It's still one of my favorites too, Buck:) And yes, it is the same picture, only cropped some from the right and the top. I only have one composition of this phenomenon. :frown:

Nobody mentioned the sea bird! I think it helps out more than you'd think - subconsciously! Great work! :toast:
