What were the settings on this? I assume this was tripod mounted? I see the characteristic sharper center and the quick fall-away going outward, but not the swirly bokeh. It certainly is a beautiful lens! The calla is lovely.

Thanks Phil ,posted info as I the camera recorded it not sure if it is accurate as it is a manual lens and I had shot many images playing with some of the creative apertures.

Lovely colour and beautifully effective transitions between sharp and soft, Lorna. I don't know the lens you mention but it sure seems to work !!

In the 19th Century, the vast majority of photos were shot with the extremely popular Petzval lens. The lens was invented by Joseph Petzval in Vienna in 1840 and had a huge impact on the development of photography. Photos shot with a Petzval lens are immediately recognizable for their sharpness and crispness, strong color saturation, wonderful swirly bokeh effect, artful vignettes and narrow depth of field. The totally distinctive look of Petzval photos is all about the fantastic lens design that gives you the satisfaction of the instant optic experience that goes far beyond using photo editing software and filters.

Lorna, I wasn't sure if I should move this over to the Flora Gallery or the Macro/Close Up Gallery. The term "creative apps" caused me to leave it here.... Well, along with the fact that this is beautiful and I didn't want to part with it in our little corner of NPN. What were the creative apps you referenced?

Hey Mark I used cross processing here as well as turned the bg blue a tear drop aperture to capture it. The cross processing and bg pretty much ruled out flora gallery !No worries if you have to move it I was not sure were it fit !

Your Petzval lens works really well here, Lorna, creating a fine sense of glow that adds nicely to the lovely flowing lines of this flower.
