Those Zion soils are a dead giveaway. I can't fault the execution, but I find the treetop centered on the mountaintop with the cactus clump off-center on the left unbalanced. Might just be in my head...

Rick, The flowering beavertail cactus always makes for a great subject. I do think a very simple square crop of this scene will enhance the point of focus on the FG cactus area quite nicely. Just a thought.

Boy, I'm sorry I missed this challenge; was in Arizona 2 years ago and have plenty of cactus shots. Zion is certainly on my bucket list too. This represents well a whole variety of terrain compressed nicely with the zoom. Like your inclusion of a strong foreground and the cactus flower adds interest too. Believe it or not, they grow in CT! Would have liked more of the hilltop in the composition, but don't know if that would have been possible.

Lots of great terrain combined in this shot, Rick. I especially like the foreground cactus with the flower in the left corner. The middle pine tree with the tip level with the mountain top feels a bit awkward. . .more mountain visible above would have been preferred, but don't know the on-site limitations you were dealing with. Many interesting elements to view in this photo.
