Misty Cove

I took this shot from my kayak on North Lake in New York State, US, just as the sunrise illuminated the woods behind. The water was so still and the mist so blue, it was other worldly and I hoped to capture that in the photo. Taken with a SONY a57.

Welcome to NPN, Jenny. :wavey: I can see how the tranquil feel of this scene drew you in. The blues are a bit strong for me. Don't hesitate to jump in and comment on other images.

Fog is a perfect mood and mystery enhancer…esp for this composition. I like the many logs…and would even think of trying for a zoom to pull then closer …though sacrificing that colorful reflection would not abide. Just a lovely shot. Agree with David’s mentioning of blue. Well done…and Welcome!

Welcome to NPN Stephanie. Reduce the blues, crop out the white sky at the top, and you have a winner!

Thanks for the comments. I am strictly an amateur and have virtually no experience with post processing/editing beyond the basics. Made some changes though.

I think your repost is much better Stephanie. I like the ethereal atmosphere and mix of blue and gold color. Welcome to NPN and don't forget to comment on others images.

Welcome to NPN! This is a lovely scene. I agree with the comments about the blue mist and the bright sky. You nailed the warming of the mist perfectly with your repost. It looks like you kept the sky and tried to burn/color change the sky though. I think you would be better off just cropping the sky out completely. The reflected sky looks fine, so you could retain the sky in the lower portion if you liked.

Much better Stephanie. The blues look fine now. As Chris stated, crop the sky out completely up top, and leave it all on the bottom.

Welcome to NPN Stephanie and your repost looks great. Beautiful colors and mood to this image. I agree about a crop from the top to bring all the focus onto the misty area. Great first image. :toast:

Stephanie, You did capture it! Your repost looks much better and I really enjoy the wonderful misty mood. I agree with Chris and think the sky could be cropped out completely rather than the yellow there. The sky reflection works fine and you could also crop that off the bottom a little for a panoramic format if you like that. I'm just kind of thinking out loud here so it is just some thoughts. You did a very nice job with this! :toast:
