Sparrow in the Snow

American Tree Sparrow in a bush outside my house. I have seed feeders and the birds huddle in the bushes in my backyard when it snows and the wind is howling. Taken with SONYa57 with 300mm SONY lens.

I really like the snow streaks. I think they set the mood of this image. The image is relatively sharp and the overall exposure looks good. I would like a better view of the eye. You might try to lighted the eye area to bring out some detail. Also, the cut off tail is not ideal. It is often tempting to fill the frame with your subject went snapping the shutter. However, I have found it is best to try to leave some room all the way around to give yourself some cropping options. With your fixed focal length lens, that probably wasn't possible in this particular instance. Nice capture. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to NPN Stephanie, I really like the blowing snow here. I agree with Jerry on the eye and the tail. It's always good to include your techs (shutter speed, F-stop, iso) in your post to help us give you a more complete critique. :toast:

I like the added dimension of the blowing snow. Jerry touched on most of the points. To me the eye looks a little soft even in the larger version, but that may just be the need for some added light as Jerry mentioned.

Hello Stephanie

A common species here in Non winter conditions. You have truly captured the wind and snow effect of a winter day.

The missing tail for me needs to be included for balance of your capture. I think you could have backed off some with the 300mm lens or if cropped you could revisit it. Without some of your techs. it difficult to give more info.
With this very tight image , I think more room around would improve the Capture and also allow better DOF for the whole bird.

Thanks for sharing
