Hey there Good Looking

I was out at sunrise today at the local nature preserve. I encountered lots of does and unantlered bucks. Only one buck seen with antlers. So now I need to start looking for new growth. I really like the does. They are usually so sleek and don't often get much attention. I came upon this gal later in the morning and she gave me some good poses so I'm returning the favor. I didn't do much to this one except crop to about 50%, added a little warmth, and some quite minor tweaks to clarity and vibrance. I thought the photo was pretty good as shot. Is the band of sunlit field behind her objectionable? Be sure to check the large version out to see her long eyelashes. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

She's a beauty, Peter. Nice sharpness and dof here. In answer to your question, as is often the case, the background being so much brighter than the subject is definitely distracting. I bet you could do wonders with this with some Shadows adjustement in LR, and/or perhaps careful use of the adjustment brush.

Hello Peter

Seems quite underexposed and blues are quite evident because of that.

Would work at brightening with exposure some, the details would show off better then !

Nice one Peter, it may be a bit dark, but I like it as it is. The doe is alert and giving you a nice pose. Also like how the band of light behind her shows off her ears. Thanks for sharing.

Detail is excellent. I think you will find improvement with opening up the exposure on just the deer, keeping the background as toned down as possible.

This is a fine pose. Yes, it would be nice if she was better lit and the background not so bright. You may be able to pick that up by pushing down the highlights (and whites) sliders and raising the shadows slider (even drastically). Then add contrast using the tone curve. When using the tone curve, remember that adjustments using the region sliders (they show up when you click on the button in the lower right) are in addition to any choice made using point curve menu.

Nice detail but a tough lighting situation here Peter, some fill flash would have been the ticket to lighten up the doe and darken the bg. :toast:
