Whooping crane

D800 600mm ISO 400 F8 1/1500 Tripod

Shot at the pastures in Lamar, Texas a couple of days ago. This one was just finished chasing another crane off and was in the process of landing and folding his wings back in. These birds always impress me with their size, with their wingspan of 7 1/2 feet. Being extremely territorial, when you get more than one family unit sharing the same feeding ground, the action is almost always memorable.

Hello Bob

Great capture. Really like how you have caught him at the right moment and that amazing set of wings!

Excellent shot. I would love to get a whooper shot as good as this.

Great capture of a difficult bird. The lighting isn't ideal but you managed what you had very well.
