This is from a blind on the Rowe Audubon Sanctuary yesterday morning prior to sunrise. There was a bald eagle cruising along the Platte that spooked the cranes to an early departure from their overnight roost. :frown:

Nice light and composition in this image. I have been in those blinds and it is a lot of fun. The last two times I was there eagles put an end to the viewing also, although not as early as it did for you.

I like the behavioral impact of this image John and like the subtle colors. Like Hans, I also like the patterns

Nice explosion shot. The fact that they are out of the foreground but still in the middle and back ground makes it even more compelling for me.

A real bummer, John. Did they all leave? It looks like you were just starting to get some really sweet light when this shot was taken. I like the ranks of Cranes on the ground and the filled sky. The clear foreground helps anchor the image as well. The problem I'm having with this image is that the glorious light on the far bg grass keeps pulling my eye right through the Cranes.

Dennis,
Yes it was a real let down as there was not one crane left on the river by the time the sun had actually came up. Last year when I was there the birds stayed on the river much longer but we had overcast skies so no nice warm directional light. This year the weather cooperated but the birds did not. It's not like I was expecting that magical light as at Bosque but was hoping for some decent early morning light for capturing the cranes. Oh well there's always next time.
