Elegance

A group of around 20 mute swans stay at this spot year round. This was the first mild day of the spring and they were very active and attractive with their posing, preening and diving. Thoroughly enjoyed their antics.

Taken with Canon 7D, using 100-400 IS at 400, ISO 800, F11, 1/1250 sec.

Comments and suggestions always appreciated.

I like this shot Patricia. There is all sorts of stuff going on there.
Composition wise it would have been good to have opened up the left side a bit to include the full extent of the splashing.
Exposure looks good but the swan itself seems to be a bit soft.

This is a very elegant pose. I like the way you stopped the action on the splashing, showing the water drops. Very nicely done, Patricia!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Martin - I do have room to crop differently. If I leave more room on the left it sets the swan dead center. Another option is to add on left and delete on right which doesn't leave enough room for him to fly into. Which is the lesser of the three evils. As to the sharpening, the original looks fine and lost something in the transition to the jpeg smaller size.

Love the spraying water in this one Patricia! I think the comp and placement of the Swan looks perfect. I also think the sharpness seems to be there. Was this unexposed in camera making you bring up the shadows in post processing?

What a perfect title for such a great shot :toast: Wonderful action...and it's wonderful to see all of his feathers all spread out........I thiiiiink I'd like more canvas on the left side, in which you could show the entire splash zone. Having him sitting in the middle of his splashing sounds fine to me...doesn't bother me a bit. :wavey:
