This time of year American Robin & Cedar Waxwing flocks are moving through Central Texas. Our water source keeps them near as they feed on the berries here. I've included a shot of the two from yesterday, managed to get both in focus..
F/10, 1/800th, ISO 500, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext @ 11:15am. partly sunny.

The larger version on the first image is a must see to appreciate the shot quality overall. Wonderful colors and detail in the feather layers. The angle of view of the shot plus the actual angle of the bird is an excellent portraiture of this guy. The small catch light in the eye is another very nice feature to this image.
The second image is another fine take and the inclusion of the traveling pair works more as a documentary type shot then the first very nice trophy image....Well done...

Excellent detail, and I love the pose, Howard. We have plenty of the robins around already, but I wouldn't mind you sending a bunch of extra Waxwings this way.

Ah spring is certainly in the air. The pair below look like they're playing follow the leader. Wonderful catch light in the eyes. The sun was in a pretty good position for you as it appears that these were shot in the middle of the day. :toast:

The lovely details on the larger view are really worth a look here; great technicals. The head turn pose is great. I also like that this is not the usual view of a Robin, where the red breast takes center stage. Instead, the viewer can focus on his head and eyes in your shot. Nice work!

The first image of the Robin is stellar and not the usual, but I have a fond wish for a little more of the iconic red breast. Probably a Pavlovian response, but I can't help it. :wavey:

Very attractive image - nice colors and pose. Maybe just a tiny bit more light on the head would make it even better, but I like it as presented ! Cheers, Hans

Very nice - I like the pose and composition against the neutral background.
