The Perfect Sunrise

I’ve become very selective in my coastal locations, seeking only those where there are distinctive features. Kaikoura is one of my favourite locations in New Zealand. It is among the few places in the world where you get to photograph a seascape with a mountain range in the background. I have a few collected over the years but capturing some thing that does justice to the location has been a challenge. However on this particular morning, the light was just falling perfectly onto the landscape.

I know what you mean Kah Kit, Elgol does it for me as does Mellon both with a mountain backdrop and both need the right conditions to make them stir your soul. Beautiful sky that mimics the rocks in the sea. Hope I get to see you in Scotland again sometime. NZ and Scotland have some great similarities though I suspect Scotland's weather is on the whole harder to deal with save good old Milford.

Beautiful light on the mountains. I really like the mimicking of the clouds with the rocks in the foreground swell. Beautiful display of an awesome part of the world

Very nice alpenglow and lead in.
I might remove some of the highlights on the rock in the lower LHC.

At first this looks checker board busy, but then my eyes lead me to the soft light on the mountains, on the way back the clouds and the rocks start to harmonize in similarity and all the elements just work very well together, an other outstanding image. I also love the hint of circular motion in the RFG in the water.

A real pretty shot, KK! Some real nice light and lines here. The brightest green spots in the lrhc pull my eye a bit.
Not to argue with you, but I think there are about a million spots on the Pacific Coast where you can shoot coast with mountains in the bg. Id love to get some of St Elias...

Spectacular in every way. The diagonal of the rocks moving across the frame, complementing the diagonals of the clouds is especially nice. Stunning image.

Spectacular comp and light. I like how the rocks seem like clouds in the ocean.

I love the quality of light, the clarity and colors here. The comp is very compelling, too, the rocks bringing your eyes out and the mountains bringing them back in again. Superb.
