Noticed these stones leaning against a wall while visiting a local cemetery this week. Have no idea why they are there, but all seem to be very old. Thought the mood called for a B&W conversion; cropped a bit and added some contrast in PSE. Used a wide aperture to draw more attention to the first stone. Nex-6, 24-75 Sony zoom lens @24mm, HH, IS) 100, 1/1250, matrix metering, WB on sunny. Comments and suggestions always welcome and thanks for viewing.

Interesting take here, Jim. During my many treks in the outbacks of Utah I've come across many 1800 era grave markers and a lot were children who only lived for short periods of time. Another dawning for me was of course the multiple wife graves buried side by side with corresponding last names and one same named husband that was part of that era too.

Does create a fine sense of abandonment. This was a good idea and a great find. I find myself wishing that I could read the inscription of the most prominent stone better. I think some additional contrast processing there would probably work.

Like Mark, I was trying to read the inscriptions on the stones but not very successfully. It would have been nice to have made the writing more visible. . .but sometimes those old stones are not very legible. The B&W processing works well to add to the somber mood of this subject matter. Very cool find for the theme, Jim.
